The High Court of the Indian State of Manipur has quashed the results of the 2016 Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations and ordered that all appointments made as a result be terminated.
The Court also asked the Central Bureau of investigation (CBI) to investigate alleged irregularities during the examination.
The MPSC conducted the examination for selection for 62 top-ranking posts in the State’s Public Service with the alleged irregularities coming to light after some unsuccessful candidates demanded to see their answer sheets under Right to Information (RTI) legislation.
A spokesperson for the unsuccessful candidates said a series of irregularities were found in almost all of the received answer scripts, such as tampering of marks, missing examiners’ signatures and wrong tallying of marks.
The spokesperson also claimed the evaluation process was carried out in a “hasty and haphazard manner” with results declared just 10 days after the examination was conducted.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh State, Jagan Mohan Reddy (pictured) has announced that the interview component in that State’s recruitment to the Public Service will be scrapped.
He said Government staff hired from January 2020 would be hired based solely on their performance in the selection examination.
Mr Reddy also announced that every January would be observed as the “month of recruitment” during which tests would be held to fill vacancies in Government Departments.
