Nearly 14,000 ideas have been shared as parts of planning for the legacy of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The Hopes and Dreams submissions together with feedback from the Brisbane 2032 Legacy Forum held in March have been included in a consultation paper, Elevate 2042, which has now been released.
Draft suggestions in Elevate 2042 include building more sustainable venues; a First Nations Cultural Centre; construction of Innovation Clusters focusing on augmented reality, bio-medical and environmental technology, and the planting of a Legacy Forest.
Premier and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Olympic and Paralympic Games were never about a few weeks of spectacle.
“They are about making the most of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Ms Palaszczuk said.
“Just as South Bank is a legacy of Expo 88, we are planning now for what the legacy of 2032 will be.”
She said bold ideas were suggested on what could be advanced by hosting the Games in the State.
“These ideas, coming from across Queensland and beyond, tell me people are embracing this opportunity and I encourage everyone to play their part,” the Premier said. ”
The final Brisbane 2032 Legacy Plan will be released in late 2023, in partnership with the Queensland and Australian Governments, Brisbane City Council, Sunshine Coast Council, City of Gold Coast, Council of Mayors, the Australian Olympic Committee, Paralympics Australia, and the Brisbane 2032 Organising Committee.
