The Australian Human Rights Commission (AHRC) has entered an agreement with the Ho Chi Minh Academy of Politics in Vietnam to develop human rights education training and materials in that country’s schools and universities.
An MoU was signed after President of AHRC, Rosalind Croucher hosted a roundtable discussion with a delegation from the Academy, led by its President, Nguyen Xuan Thang and a number of Australian experts.
The discussion explored the challenges and opportunities for embedding human rights in education.
Professor Croucher said the AHRC was delighted to partner with the Academy to further the common goal of promoting and protecting human rights in Vietnam through education.
She said that under the Human Rights Education Partnership, the Commission will assist the Academy in its mandate to build the capacity of relevant Vietnamese Government Agencies and educational institutions to enhance the promotion and protection of human rights through education.
“The partnership is a significant milestone in our ongoing collaboration with Vietnam,” Professor Croucher said.
“It comes after 45 years of diplomatic relations and the successful technical cooperation program between the Commission and Vietnam, which spanned more than a decade.”
The Human Rights Education Partnership is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
