A new Digital Technology Hub is to be set up to help regional communities make the most of telecommunications services in their areas, with submissions now being sought for its design.
A statement from the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications said that the hub was being established in response to recommendations from the 2018 Regional Telecommunications Review, which called for more to be done to assist regional users of telecommunications services.
“The Digital Tech Hub will provide independent and factual information to support regional, rural and remote Australians in solving telecommunications issues and making the most of available technologies,” the Department said.
“It will also provide information on digital applications for regional business sectors and assist local communities to engage in digital planning.”
The Department said it was calling on interested stakeholders to have their say on the design of the Digital Tech Hub, with submissions open until 21 February.
“The Digital Tech Hub forms part of the Regional Connectivity Program which is designed to target investment to local priorities to maximise economic opportunities and region-wide benefits for regional, rural and remote Australians,” the Department said.
