Emergency services volunteers and staff have been honoured at the 2021 South Australian Ministerial Emergency Service Medals and Commendations award ceremony early this month (15 October).
Chief Officer of the South Australian State Emergency Service (SASES), Chris Beattie said the awards recognised the tireless and extraordinary work of people who contributed to community safety through operational emergency service organisations and associated Agencies.
Chief Officer Beattie said it was terrific to see so many volunteers and staff from across the sector being recognised for their outstanding contributions at the ceremony, which was held at the SA Sea Rescue Squadron’s headquarters at West Beach.
Minister for Emergency Services, Vincent Tarzia presented awards to recipients from the South Australian Metropolitan Fire Service; South Australian Country Fire Service; SASES; Volunteer Marine Rescue (VMR) SA; SA Ambulance Service; and Surf Life Saving SA.
Chief Officer Beattie said he was especially proud of SASES and VMR recipients who had all gone the extra mile and made a real contribution to community safety.
He said the SA Emergency Services Medal (SAESM) was presented to an individual or unit for “distinguished and/or meritorious services of the highest order” and the award was a full coin Medal set as well as a framed certificate.
Chief Officer Beattie said the Ministerial Commendation recognised significant effort, bravery or service and was awarded for “meritorious or courageous action” and included a framed certificate and lapel pin.
“While it is recognised that most members of Emergency Services deserve recognition for their contributions, these awards are intended for the few individuals or units who have gone even further than that ‘extra mile’,” he said.
Members of the South Australian State Emergency Service and Volunteer Marine Rescue to receive Ministerial Commendations were Michael Woosnam, Marie Trabilsie, Anthony Polglase, Michael Laundry, John Kindness, William Job, Gavin Golding, Travis Devine, Claire Bartlett, Nick Askew and Malcolm Brine.
The SA Emergency Services Medal was awarded to Warren Brook and Craig Brassington.
