Access Canberra has announced that the ACT’s drivers now have free and easy online access to camera images for all speeding and red-light offences captured on mobile and fixed cameras.
Director of Customer Coordination at Access Canberra, Josh Rynehart said the initiative was another example of Access Canberra making it easier for the community to work with Government and make transactions easily and quickly online.
“Prior to the introduction of this initiative, drivers would need to request a camera image every time they received a speeding or red-light traffic infringement by sending an application to the Traffic Camera Office,” Mr Rynehart said.
“The image related to the infringement would then be sent to them by post or email.”
He said drivers did not often have a good recollection of the offence for which they had been issued an infringement and the initiative would assist drivers when paying fines or disputing infringements.
“Having easy online access to images at their fingertips will help drivers review their journey and decide what action to take,” Mr Rynehart said.
“Drivers will only need to contact Access Canberra if the issue is complex — for example, if they were not the driver, they will need to complete a declaration form.”
He said in the past calendar year 15 per cent of infringements were disputed or requested to be withdrawn and it was expected that once drivers had the opportunity to view images online the number of traffic infringement appeals would decrease.
“Not only does the new system have the functionality that allows clients to view camera images of offences online, it also provides clearer images and automatically checks for stolen vehicle and interstate number plates,” Mr Rynehart said.
