A total of 32 high schools from all parts of the State are to take part in the Hydrogen Gateway to Industry Schools program after the program was expanded to include the emerging industry last year.

Minister for Training and Skills Development, Di Farmer said the industry-led program broadened science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) knowledge to diversify and assist in accelerating future skills and opportunities towards the hydrogen industry.

“Students that participate in the Hydrogen Gateway Industry to Schools partnership will be exposed to a range of learning experiences to assist them in their career choices and self-select pathways to employment,” Ms Farmer said.

She was supported by Minister for Energy, Renewables and Hydrogen, Mick de Brenni who said from production, to engineering, to storage to distribution and exporting, the program offered various opportunities for schools to become involved.

“This initiative offers teachers professional development to ensure they’re supported with industry knowledge to give context to STEAM teachings,” Mr de Brenni said.

Ms Farmer said more than 2,000 students would benefit over the next three years, thanks to more than $800,000 in funding.

“Delivered by Energy Skills Queensland, the program provides hands-on experience to the emerging hydrogen industry,” the Minister said.
