The SA Heritage Council has launched its annual photo competition, calling members of the community to vote for their favourite picture of the State’s heritage places.

Executive Officer of the SA Heritage Council, David Hanna said the Heritage SnAps 2021 competition was about showcasing through the public’s lens, South Australia’s 2,307 State Heritage Places, 17 State Heritage Areas and celebrating its maritime and coastal heritage.

Mr Hanna said initial judging had taken place with the Top 20 photos available for viewing in four categories including maritime and coastal Heritage; State Heritage places to visit; Professional; and Young Talent.

He said Tony Knight’s shot of The Sugarloaf at Hallet Cove (pictured) was one of this year’s Top 20 photographs.

He said it was now the public’s chance to become involved by voting for their favourite photo with the winner receiving the most votes to be awarded the People’s Choice Award.

“The competition gives budding photographers a great incentive to get out and explore the State’s iconic and lesser-known heritage places,” Mr Hanna said.

“And it’s a great opportunity for photographers to learn about the story behind the place and why these heritage places are significant.

“A big thank you to our sponsors, including Restaurant Botanic, that have helped make this year’s competition a reality.”

The Heritage Council chief said this year’s competition had captured some stunning photos, which made the task a difficult one for the three judges.

Public voting is open until midnight Sunday 21 November and the competition’s Top 20 photos, as well as how to register votes, can be accessed at this PS News link.
