The Department of Health has launched a new campaign aimed at providing practical, evidence-based strategies in an effort to help Western Australians manage their mental health and wellbeing.

The Learn to Look After You campaign acknowledges the stress and uncertainty people might be feeling due to the increasing community transmission of COVID-19.

Minister for Mental Health, Amber-Jade Sanderson said research had shown that feelings of uncertainty and lack of control could cause stress and anxiety.

“While it’s natural for our minds to dwell on our problems, this can increase feelings of anxiety,” Ms Sanderson said.

“This campaign encourages Western Australians to learn to shift their thoughts, prioritise the things that bring them joy, accept that things change and be flexible,” she said.

Ms Sanderson said the campaign’s key message was ‘no matter the hard stuff that is going on around you, there are things you can do to help manage how you feel’.

“The campaign encompasses this idea and aims to motivate people to explore these management strategies further,” she said.

“The Learn to Look After You campaign was developed with expert advice provided by specialist provider, This Way Up and recognises this is a very challenging time for many people.”

Launched on television at the weekend (13 February), the Learn to Look After You campaign will be supported by advertising in cinemas and press, online and across social media.
