The Department of Health has put out a call for retired, part-time and under-employed health care workers to join in the response of the COVID-19 virus pandemic
In a statement, the Department said it would match applicants’ skills and preferences with suitable services, prioritising sectors and communities that needed help most, across health care, aged care and Indigenous health.
“We are making it as easy as possible for you to work in health and aged care by cutting red tape, fast-tracking the recruitment processes and helping you refresh your skills in areas such as PPE (personal protective equipment) and infection control,” the Department said.
“At the very minimum, applicants would need to be registered with their health profession and have an up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination,” it said.
The Department said applicants would also be asked questions about their work history and about their preferred area of practice.
“Questions on COVID-19 vaccination training are particularly relevant for those with an interest in vaccinating and for some roles in primary care,” it said.
“It is not requirement for many other roles.
“There are opportunities across all sectors of the health and aged care system.
“Many people may not be able to commit to shift work or more than a limited number of hours per week — we ask for your preferences and availability.”
The Department said other applicants might not be able to travel very far but “again you are asked to tell us what you can do”.
