The Dickson Library has turned 50 after opening to the public on 6 December 1969.
Designed by internationally respected Italian-born architect, Dr Enrico Taglietti, the library is a heritage-listed and iconic location in Canberra’s inner-north community.
Libraries ACT has extended a community invitation to celebrate the facility’s 50th birthday from 10.15 am this Saturday (30 November).
Organisers have organised a full day of family-friendly activities including a birthday cake, National Trust heritage talk and tour of the building and a reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar book.
Other features of the birthday celebrations will be music of the 1960s with acoustic duo Kath and Ross, a sausage sizzle by Majura Men’s Shed and the Left Lane Outreach Theatre are set to present a Little Worm performance.
