Development approval has been signed off on the new METRONET Midland Station, bus interchange and multi-storey car park.
The station will relocate and replace Midland’s existing train station, bus interchange and associated parking areas.
In addition to delivering quality new infrastructure for the community, the station will improve connection to the existing retail areas, while maintaining the railway’s central role in the area.
In a statement, the Department of Transport said a five-storey car park would include more than 800 parking bays, with the design freeing up land for future residential and mixed-use development.
“The project incorporates sustainable design principles, and will reflect the area’s Aboriginal culture and heritage as well as its industrial character through materials, artwork and architecture,” the Department said.
Landscaping design includes a number of ‘pocket parks’ with local native and Waterwise plant species, and a substantial number of new tree plantings.
Minister for Transport, Rita Saffioti said the development application approval marked an important milestone in another METRONET project, and a program of works that was delivering new transport infrastructure for communities across Brisbane.
Meanwhile, work is progressing on the new Whiteman Park Station, which will become a major transport hub on the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook train line.
Elevated rail is now being installed with beams that will support the elevated platforms.
