The annual NSW Green Globe Awards are open for nominations.
Minister for the Environment, Matt Kean said he wanted to hear about citizens across NSW who were doing great things for the environment both locally and internationally.
“This year marks the 20th anniversary of the awards,” Mr Kean said.
“It’s amazing to see what’s been achieved by business, not-for-profit groups and inspiring individuals who have started ground-breaking projects with the help of these awards,” he said.
“Every year we get hundreds of nominations and it doesn’t matter whether the nominees are in the country or city — there’s great enthusiasm for sustainability and the environment across NSW.”
He said the Green Globe Awards recognised 12 categories ranging from built and natural environments to innovation and resource efficiency, sustainability and young sustainability champions.
He said a total of 529 Green Globe Awards had been made since 1999.
Mr Kean said last year’s Young Sustainability Champion was Anika Molesworth (pictured), the founder of a knowledge-sharing platform for farmers and researchers called Climate Wise Agriculture.
“Anika was recognised for her advocacy for conservation and her work to build resilient agriculture and strong rural communities,” Mr Kean said.
Ms Molesworth said people working in Australian agriculture were making meaningful contributions to vibrant and resilient futures for everyone.
“My Green Globe Award recognised the challenges farmers face and the efforts being made in food security, environmental conservation and climate adaptation,” Ms Molesworth said.
To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the awards, two Lifetime Achievement Awards will be introduced — one for individuals and one for organisations.
Entries will be judged by an independent panel of 21 experts from the fields of energy, water, waste, sustainability and academia. Winners will be named on 27 November.
Nominations are now open until 10 July and can be made at this PS News link.
