By Grace Amos, Kaos 2023.
Give Up The Chase is another cracking song from the up-coming EP of teen pop/rock sensation Grace Amos.
It’s probably the last before the EP’s release because I think I’ve reviewed five or six songs by now.
Each track has been remarkably good so the extended play will be worthwhile picking up.
After a sultry build up where Grace laments her decision to devote so much time and energy to someone who never reciprocates Give Up The Chase suddenly bursts with built up tension in a staccato chorus that ripples with pent up frustration.
It’s yet another take on the unrequited, or unfulfilled, love theme but there’s a level of maturity to the song that suggests it’s come from someone with much more life experience.
It’s this tension between desire and frustration, attraction and rejection, interest and disinterest, represented both lyrically and in the music that makes the song work so well.
The descending chord progression, with Grace’s voice soaring over it, at the end of the track is a clever touch and a highlight.
I assume that the same production team that was responsible for her previous single By The Grace of God (2022) was once again involved.
I rated that song as her best yet when I reviewed it last year but Give Up The Chase is a close second.
In fact, there’s not much between the lot of them, they’re all very good.
Whoever is involved in the production they’ve found the right formula with each song containing great earworms and being instantly radio friendly.
Despite this the songs still contain enough edge to make them interesting and stand out from the rest of the pack.
I firmly believe that Grace Amos has a big future ahead of her.
