Andrew Hackett* urges us to look within ourselves to recognise the power we already have to be a success in our careers and in life…
It seems human to want things.
You want more, to seek to be better and to achieve greater things.
Yet, there is great power in understanding a basic truth: We already have everything we need to succeed in life.
You are not missing anything. You are exactly as the universe intended you to be.
This is important because the universe doesn’t make mistakes.
It gave you all the tools you need to create the life that you want and it made you capable of learning to use those tools too.
This seems incredible because it means you don’t need to go looking without to improve yourself.
You don’t need to wander the earth or undergo the trials of Hercules to get to where you need to be, you’re already there.
So, how do you get to tap into all this wonderful natural goodness that is you?
Mindfulness appears to be the key to our potential.
The good news is that mindfulness is a modern reinterpretation of meditation.
Meditation is easy to learn, you can begin with just five minutes a day.
Find a quiet place and make yourself comfortable.
Close your eyes and for a second just concentrate on the sound of your breathing.
Focus all your attention on that sound and the way it feels.
You will find other thoughts arising as you do. That’s okay.
Acknowledge each thought, allow it to pass, and bring your attention back to your breathing.
It can be quite hard to begin with, but over time you will find it easier and easier to clear your mind.
The modern world is a busy, hectic place and we are expected to do so many things in such little time that many of us never take so much as a moment to ourselves.
We serve others, we race from place to place, but we don’t look inside and ask: “What do we want?”
When you clear your mind of thought, it becomes easy for your purpose to become apparent to you.
In the quiet of meditation, you find space to know yourself in a meaningful way.
In the stillness, you start to see what’s important and what matters to you.
As importantly, you start to see how you can achieve these things.
What you see may surprise you.
Marketing is very good at convincing us we want things that we never would have wanted.
When you clear away the noise of the world, you blow through the material concerns of marketers and find the stuff that always mattered, the real you.
Just five minutes a day of meditative practice can completely transform your life.
The path to success isn’t a scary place — it’s within you.
You are the perfect person to journey down that path because that’s the way the universe works.
All it takes is breathing.
