Applications are now open for the Department of Communities’ 2023 Community Gardens Grants Program.
Grants of up to $10,000 are provided through the program to support the establishment and development of sustainable and edible community gardens.
In a statement, the Department said the gardens supported by the program also provided an opportunity for people to actively participate in the community, build relationships between neighbours and community members, and connect with nature and the environment.
“Community organisations and Local Government authorities are invited to apply for grants of up to $10,000 per project, which can be used on a wide range of garden-related items and services, from plants, seedlings, and fertiliser to planning, design, and training services,” the Department said.
“Successful applicants will demonstrate that their project encourages participation of the wider community and is a feasible and sustainable project.”
Minister for Community Services, Sabine Winton said getting outdoors, connecting with nature, and participating in the community were great mood boosters and good for everyone’s wellbeing.
“Community gardens provide a great opportunity for community members to work together to utilise communal space, while connecting with others, developing new skills and appreciating the outdoors,” Ms Winton said.
“I encourage any community organisation or Local Government with a green thumb or love of the outdoors to apply and start thinking about how they can spruce up their community spaces.”
Applications for the Community Garden Grants Program close on 14 July. Twenty pages of further information and an application form can be accessed at this PS News link.
