The 2018 Garage Sale Trail, a nationwide weekend event which encourages the reuse of household items that might otherwise end up in landfill, takes place on 20-to-21 October.

ACT NoWaste has put its weight behind the event with Team Leader Education, Robbie Ladbrook saying the Garage Sale Trail was an opportunity for individuals, schools and community groups to host their own sales or fundraising events.

“It is also an opportunity for bargain hunters to mark the date in their diary to trek around town and visit Garage Sale Trail sites,” Ms Ladbrook said.

“In 2017 there were 15,000 sales nationwide and 400,000 people attended with over $1 million raised for schools, charities and local community groups.”

She urged Canberrans to again get behind the 2018 Garage Sale Trail.

“It is more than just a great opportunity to stop some potential treasure from going to landfill, it is a chance to find some bargains and help reduce waste in the ACT,” Ms Ladbrook said.

“For sellers it’s a free, fun and social way to de-clutter and make some pocket money.

For shoppers, it’s a great way to grab a bargain, find something unique and shop sustainably.”

Registrations for the 2018 Garage Sale Trail are now open.

People wishing to host an event will be supported with material to help advertise their sale and can also list their event for free on the national website.
