Minister for the Arts and Cultural Events, Gordon Ramsay has announced the successful applicants for grants across a range of art forms including visual arts, literature, theatre, music and dance.

Mr Ramsay said 15 projects are to receive more than $300,000 in funding through the second round of the Arts Activities grants.

“These diverse projects will help our local artists gain new skills, connect with international artists, try new and exciting ideas and develop new performances for the community to enjoy,” Mr Ramsay said.

He said funded activities included an international artist residency in Ireland for Julie Bradley to create a new body of visual art works; the publication of a collection of literary work by Canberrans in the Cicerone Journa;, and the development of an immersive virtual reality dance project, CRONE, by Mirramu Dance Company.

He said also funded was an augmented reality artwork by Daniel Savage and Anna Madeline to create different perspectives of public spaces.

Mr Ramsay said the new approach to arts funding had been well received by artists.

“I am proud that we have achieved such great outcomes for the community by providing more flexibility and more funding opportunities for artists,” he said.

Artist, Brenda Croft (pictured) said funding support for arts and cultural practitioners was crucial, allowing the realisation of complex ideas and bringing dreams to bloom.

“Thanks to the invaluable support of Arts ACT, I am now able to bring a long-standing project to fruition, and in doing so, pay respect to my Gurindji/Malngin/Mudburra family and ancestors, for their sacrifices, determination and inspiration,” Ms Croft said.

Mr Ramsay said the next funding round would open on 1 June and close 31 July.
