The South Australian Tourism Commission has partnered with the Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA), the City of Adelaide and the Property Council South Australia to launch the FOMO Fridays initiative which kicked off last week (17 September).
The Commission said this Friday’s (24 September) event would activate Adelaide’s riverbank in the morning, Rundle Mall at lunch and Gresham and Gilbert laneways after work.
It said the next two Fridays (1 October and 8 October) would include Light Square and Waymouth Street, as well as Hindmarsh Square and the East End.
Premier, Steven Marshall said FOMO Fridays would get people, jobs and dollars back into the CBD.
“On the back of announcing the #GoToTown campaign, more than 90,000 Great State Vouchers for tours, experiences and accommodation, and further targeted support to tourism and hospitality businesses Statewide, the FOMO Fridays initiative is another way we’re supporting SA jobs and keeping our economy strong,” Mr Marshall said.
Lord Mayor of Adelaide, Sandy Verschoor said that in addition to street parties, live music and games, the City of Adelaide would offer free parking at selected UParks and discounted parking would also be available at Wilson Parking.
Ms Verschoor said visitors to the CBD would also be enticed to the Rundle Mall shopping precinct with special offers available for shoppers.
“We’re calling on city workers to get in bright and early this Friday to enjoy the roving performers or some yoga, and to stay on late into the evening for a meal and drinks with friends,” she said.
Executive Director of the Property Council South Australia, Daniel Gannon said the FOMO Fridays would bring life back into the CBD.
“Let’s put the fun back into Friday – there’s no time to waste,” Mr Gannon said.
