The City Renewal Authority (CRA) has put its weight behind an initiative in Garema Place that will deliver lunchtime Zumba classes every Tuesday and Thursday until mid November.
Organiser of the Spring into Zumba initiative, Carlos Torres said being able to provide 14 weeks of free classes in the city, coordinated by the Spanish Speakers Association, was an opportunity to share the passion for Zumba and the benefits that accompanied it.
“With Zumba, a workout does not feel laborious,” Mr Torres said.
“It’s a fun, social dance party, with exercise being the biggest perk.
“These classes are open to everyone, from the beginner to the experienced dancer.”
Chief Executive of CRA, Malcolm Snow said the event was an opportunity to enjoy Garema Place in an unusual way.
“The city’s public spaces are there for the enjoyment of all of us,” Mr Snow said.
He said Spring into Zumba was a chance to enjoy that part of the city by participating in a free activity open to everyone.
“These classes are just one of 11 City Grants projects that will increase vibrancy in our centre this year,” Mr Snow said.
He said the City Grants program sought to encourage creativity, innovation and diversity and also created an avenue for capacity-building within the community so that recipients were equipped with the knowhow to continue hosting high-quality events in the city centre.
Spring into Zumba will run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm until 20 November.
No registration is necessary.
