Forums to lead way to PS-wide data

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet’s (DPC) Office for Data Analytics (ODA) has established several new cross-Agency governance forums to help foster a whole-of-Government approach to data governance.

Unveiling the forums, ODA said the new data asset governance approach sought to reinforce trusted access principles and create a shared approach across Government.

It said State Data Asset Committees would provide strategic oversight from value, ethical and risk management perspectives in the use of the Government’s data assets in alignment with the ‘trusted access principles’ contained in the Public Sector (Data Sharing) Act 2016 (SA).

“The first two committees established are the State Social Data Asset Committee (SSDAC) covering the appropriate use of social data assets to support Government decision making and the State Economic Data Asset Committee (SEDAC) covering South Australian Government’s economic data assets,” the Office said.

ODA said the State Data Asset Committees (SDAC) would support better use of data for development of economic policy, the evaluation of economic impacts of Government-funded programs and services, and the publication of data insights to attract business investment and migration to South Australia.

“Data held by State Government is a valuable asset,” it said.

“South Australians expect their data to be used to provide better services in a coordinated way.”

The Office said matters that should be bought before the SDAC included Multi-Agency data sharing initiatives; Multi-Agency sharing with another jurisdiction; and Project proposals seeking to utilise the State Social Data Asset for service delivery, operations or research.

It said the SEDAC aimed to support better use of data for development of economic policy; the evaluation of economic impacts of Government-funded programs and services; and the publication of data insights to attract business investment and migration to South Australia.
