The Department of Communities has purchased a former hotel on Murray Street, West Perth to support people who are sleeping rough.
The initiative is part of the Department’s Housing First supported accommodation service and a community housing organisation will be appointed to manage the site.
In a statement, the Department said the acquisition complemented the Supportive Landlord package, which included $20.7 million to provide 100 homes for people sleeping rough.
“In keeping with the complexity of the needs of these vulnerable people, and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of residents, the intake of all residents will be carefully managed through a coordination group led by the Department in partnership with the WA Alliance to End Homelessness with access to the By-Name List,” the Department said.
Executive Director of the Office of Homelessness, Jacqui Herring said an expression of interest to find and appoint a community housing organisation to manage the site had now opened.
“We’re looking for a community housing organisation to partner and work with us to deliver Housing First supported accommodation and property and tenancy management services,” Ms Herring said.
“This new facility will complement current accommodation options in the Perth central business district for people who are rough sleeping, including Boorloo Bidee Mia in Wellington Street and Koort Boodja in Northbridge.
