Floristry students from the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) have created a series of native floral arrangements as part of a new exhibition at the Australian National Botanic Gardens.
In a statement, the CIT said the exhibition, Into the Wild, would be open until 20 June and was an opportunity to see how CIT Floristry Certificate III students utilised the diversity and range of Australian native wildflowers and foliage to create dynamic floral designs.
Floristry student at the CIT, Grace Walter said the key theme of the exhibition was sustainability.
“Not only were all the plants we used Australian natives, but they were also all grown locally,” Ms Walter said.
“The exhibition was also sustainable and environmentally friendly as all of the materials used were bio-degradable, including in the arbour itself,” she said.
Ms Walter said the project was a great opportunity for her and the other students to work collaboratively and she enjoyed the focus on Australian native species.
“It is great to be able to display our work in public,” she said.
“It makes it all the more meaningful that people get to share in the experience and see what we have designed.”
