The Education Directorate has released its first phase implementation plan for the Future of Education Strategy, outlining actions and commitments for the next 18 months.

Announcing the plan, Minister for Education and Early Child Development, Yvette Berry said it detailed six priorities: Strengthening inclusive education; giving students more of a say; supporting a workforce of the future; community schools; giving young people the best start, and focusing the system on what matters most.

Ms Berry said $4.2 million had been allocated over four years to meet the reforms arising from the Future of Education Strategy, including strengthening the Positive Behaviour for Learning program across ACT public schools and initial resourcing to support complex case management.

“Importantly, the plan demonstrates a clear commitment to supporting the school workforce throughout all stages of their careers,” Ms Berry said

“This commitment includes 30 Master of Education scholarships a year over the coming years, the provision of coordinated professional experience placements for pre-service teachers along with a comprehensive mentor training program for new Government teachers.”

She said she also planned to increase the number of teachers certified at the Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher standard by 10 teachers by next year, as well as releasing a whole-of-jurisdiction workforce strategy to ensure the ACT attracted and retained expert educators across all schooling sectors.

The Directorate’s 14-page first phase implementation plan can be accessed on its website at this PS News link.
