There’s a furnace of warmth in the Canberra Glassworks and if you avoid the doors on a cold frosty night it’s quite a pleasant place to be for those who resist going out in the winter.
Then there’s body warmth.
We get in close and personal with our winter woollies, scarves and beanies, and welcome a good glass of wine.
Lake George Winery’s Sarah and Anthony McDougall held an official launch for their new look winery that’s just off the Federal Highway as we whip towards the Collector end of Lake George at the Glassworks with giant platters of easy eating canapés accompanied but a formidable collection of wines.
Whites downstairs and reds upstairs was the call and a welcoming atmosphere for all who attended and tested the produce.
Baby Ethan Wootten was the best behaved six week old baby I’ve met and obligingly slept through all the formalities.
Marg Wade of Canberra Secrets Personalised tours performed the official opening and will have Lake George Winery on her not-so-secret tours.
And as a long term vineyard – originally opened in 1971 – this fresh new look is a positive approach to the success of the winery with a silent auction for the launch charity partner the ‘Sleepy Burrows Wombat Sanctuary’ keeping the wildlife in the loop.

So I’ve had two wine, food and fun nights over the last couple of weeks realising the nights in Canberra really are sparklers – yes of course it’s cold but we have the technology to keep warm and the city has much to offer.
