Transport Canberra is urging people planning to visit this weekend’s National Multicultural Festival to do so using bus services.

Executive Director of Public Transport Operations at Transport Canberra, Judith Sturman said high frequency bus services and Late Night Rapids had been arranged to assist the crowds travelling to and from the festival in the city.

“The easiest and most efficient way to travel to and from the National Multicultural Festival this weekend is by using public transport,” Ms Sturman said.

“We will be increasing capacity across the bus network, including additional 200 and 300 Rapid services in place on Saturday and Sunday.”

She said a special Late Night Rapid service, in partnership with Uber, would also run during the festival on Friday and Saturday.

“The Late Night Rapid bus service will see the Red and Blue Rapids depart the City to major bus stations every 20 minutes until 2am,” she said.

“Passengers can then use the Uber app to receive a $10 discount to travel home.”

Ms Sturman said there would be a number of diversions and stop closures in place around the City Bus Station precinct.

“So, to get to the festival, you may need to use multiple modes of transport, including bus, walking and cycling.”

She encouraged visitors to the festival to use Transport Canberra’s Journey Planner to ensure their trip was easy and fast.

The online planner can be accessed on the Transport Canberra website at this PS News link.
