The 2022 World Science Festival Brisbane program has been announced, revealing a range of creative experiences that demonstrate the connection between the arts and science.
Launching the event, Minister for the Arts, Leeanne Enoch said the Festival’s theme was Science, People, Heart, investigating how science, creativity and art were helping shape a brighter, more hopeful world.
Ms Enoch said the collaboration between art and science wove a story that had been told for thousands of generations and was a key to engaging the future.
“This year’s World Science Festival Brisbane will again inspire the hearts and minds of Queenslanders of all ages,” she said.
“In 2022 the bold, contemporary program of over 130 events will have almost 50 free shows and will include the City of Science, education programs, conversations and the much-loved The Hatchery; Turtle Conservation Experience.”
The Minister said the program would explore some exciting themes, developed over 60,000 years of knowledge from the first scientists to the new space age.
“World Science Festival Brisbane encourages us to study the significance of science on our everyday lives, by engaging in new medical and technological advances, interwoven with the fragile balance of our natural world,” Ms Enoch said.
She said a further $9 million had been allocated to ensure the festival and regional programing could continue for three more years.
“This iconic event has attracted more than 800,000 visitors over its six years and injected more than $36 million into Queensland’s economy,” Ms Enoch said.
