Experts in the fields of zero emissions transport and public health are being encouraged to join the ACT Climate Change Council.
Minister for Emissions Reduction, Shane Rattenbury said the Council advised the local Government on the program to make the ACT resilient to the effects of climate change and reduce its emissions to net zero by 2045.
“The advice we receive from the ACT Climate Change Council helps us build resilience and find the best path towards net zero emissions,” Mr Rattenbury said.
“The Council includes members from across the ACT community, business and industry sectors,” he said.
“This brings diverse skills and perspectives which is crucial as we all work together to find solutions.”
Mr Rattenbury said the Territory was particularly interested in applications from people with expertise in transport planning and public health.
“This is because the transport sector contributes to approximately 60 per cent of the ACT’s emissions,” he said.
“And we have also seen how climate change can vastly affect our community’s health, particularly through what our community experienced during the 2019-20 bushfire season.”
Mr Rattenbury said applications to join the Council were open until 2 June.
