The Australian Retirement Trust (ART), formed from the merger of Sunsuper and QSuper, has appointed former Queensland Treasurer, Andrew Fraser Chair of its Board to oversee the next phase of integration and growth.

Mr Fraser (pictured) was appointed as an independent Director of Sunsuper in September 2015 and as Chair of Sunsuper in February 2018.

He has served as a director on the ART Board since February following the merger.

In 2021 he was appointed as Deputy Chancellor of Griffith University, where he is also Chair of Finance and Risk Committee of the University Council.

Mr Fraser is a graduate of Griffith, from which he holds First Class Honours Degrees in Law and Commerce and won the University Medal.

Previously he was the Head of Strategy and Investment at the National Rugby League and has served as Director of the Rugby League World Cup 2017 Ltd., New Zealand Rugby League Inc. and on the Australian Sports Commission.

Mr Fraser served as a Minister in two Governments including as Treasurer of Queensland from 2007 to 2012.

He described his new appointment as a great responsibility.

“I am grateful for the trust and confidence of my fellow Trust directors and I very much look forward to continuing to work to grow and guard the retirement savings of the two million Australians who entrust us with their superannuation,” Mr Fraser said.

He replaces Don Luke, who has decided to step down from the role of Chair as the end of his term approached.

Mr Luke was previously Chair of QSuper and served as Chief Executive of Sunsuper for more than a decade.
