The Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA) has released a video showing how works are being conducted on the Lemon Springs illegal waste dump site in the State’s north west.
The Authority said the video provided aerial vision of the excavation of the site.
“Shot by drones, it’s the first time EPA has been able to release vision of the site and clearly shows the scale of the clean-up challenge,” EPA said.
“The site remediation works are continuing to progress well, with a second excavation site nearing completion,” it said.
“More than 400 tonnes of waste has been removed from the site to EPA licensed facilities.”
The EPA said a second hardstand pad for the treatment of contaminated soil would be constructed in the coming weeks, which would allow further on-site remediation works to occur.
The Authority said five additional groundwater monitoring wells had now been installed on site in targeted locations.
“These wells have been added to our network to provide further information on the groundwater conditions,” it said.
“EPA will continue to monitor and update the community on these results throughout the clean-up and remediation works,” the EPA said.
Project Manager with the EPA, Julian Bull said groundwater testing results had been consistently clear, with no signs of contamination, but it was important the Authority remained vigilant while the clean-up progressed.
