Energex is urging consumers to sign up for free electricity outage and restoration SMS notifications.
Executive General Manager for Customers, Michael Dart said the service also provided property owners with an SMS giving five days warning of any planned maintenance power interruptions occurring in their street.
‘The SMS service is ideal for helping people plan their lives around unexpected and planned disruptions to power to their house,” Mr Dart said.
“At Energex we know any power interruption can be inconvenient, but these SMSs will allow you to better plan when they occur.”
He gave the example of crews carrying out maintenance and having to cut power.
“We’ll always send a notification via post at least four days beforehand, but people who have signed up for the SMS service will also get a text,” Mr Dart said.
“When unexpected outages occur during events such as storms, we will SMS affected properties and then send another text once power is restored.”
He said this would allow customers to make other arrangements, such as leaving their premises and returning once they received a text that power has been reconnected.
Mr Dart said those wanting to register to receive outage notifications should go online at www.energex.com.au/selfservice or phone 13 12 53.
“You’ll need to have your latest electricity bill handy to answer a couple of questions,” he said.
