Emergency vehicles to push vaccination message

Thousands of frontline emergency vehicles, including fire trucks, police vehicles, State Emergency Service vehicles and ambulances, will soon be carrying a message urging Queenslanders to get vaccinated.

Minister for Fire and Emergency Services, Mark Ryan said the message on the stickers was simple but poignant: Our job saves lives, your jab saves lives.

Mr Ryan said the initiative was a great way to get the vaccination message out to the community.

“Our emergency response vehicles are out in the community every day,” he said.

“Across Queensland there are more than 6,000 frontline response vehicles.

“There is a real urgency to this vaccination rollout, because the COVID clock is ticking, COVID is coming.”

Mr Ryan said he wanted everyone vaccinated before the borders opened and the virus arrived.

“The benefits of vaccination are real and clear,” he said.

“A vaccinated person has an 86 per cent less chance of being infected with the virus and passing it on.

“A vaccinated person has a 90 per cent less chance of dying from the effects of COVID.”

Coordinator of Queensland Vaccine Operations, Acting Deputy Commissioner of the Queensland Police Service, Shane Chelepy (pictured) said Queenslanders had done well over the past 18 months, but it was very important everyone kept up the good work and got vaccinated.

“We will see more COVID-19 coming into Queensland once the borders open and we cannot protect you from the virus if you won’t protect yourself,” Acting Deputy Commissioner Chelepy said.

“There is no reason to delay receiving the vaccine, there is plenty of supply and various locations across Queensland to get vaccinated,” he said.
