VicRoads has reported that almost a third of all car divers in Victoria have taken up the new short-term registration option since the initiative was launched two years ago.
The Minister for Roads, Jaala Pulford said 1.8 million Victorian vehicles were now registered under the short-term option, allowing vehicle owners to pay less upfront and spread the cost of renewing their registration across the year.
“Since short term registration was launched on 1 January 2018, almost a third of all light vehicle registrations have been processed using flexible three-month and six-month registration options,” Ms Pulford said.
“Around 1.2 million of these vehicles were paid for using the three-month registration option, with the remaining 630,000 choosing the six-month registration period,” she said.
“Overall, short term registration proved most popular with the 21 to 30 age group.”
Ms Pulford said more men had opted for shorter registration periods, with the total uptake of three and six-month registration sitting at 55 per cent of males and 45 per cent of females.
She said customers that took up the short-term registration option could change their chosen renewal period at any time.
