Animals connect us with nature. We like their natural manner and their seemingly simple lifestyle. Some animals are cute. Others are entertaining.

Dynasties unfolds the story of five extraordinary animals, each in a heroic struggle against rivals and against the forces of nature, fighting for their own survival and for the future of their dynasties.

It takes you deeper into the lives of the world’s most celebrated and endangered animals: chimpanzee, Emperor penguin, lion, Painted wolf and tiger. Travel from the plains of Africa to the jungles of India, from the edge of the Sahara to the frozen wastes of Antarctica.

Watch leaders battling rivals for their crown, feuds tearing ‘families’ apart and ‘parents’ risking their lives to protect offspring from the coldest and cruellest winter on earth. Their heroic battles against the odds are extraordinary.

Award-winning English broadcaster, biologist, natural historian and author Sir Richard Attenborough, 96, narrates the most intimate and intense stories of their kind ever told.

“Animals do have a lot of human characteristics – particularly primates.” Anthropomorphism, though, is a risky business. “It’s unjustifiable anthropomorphism that’s the danger. You have to be very careful when you’re writing a script; you have to be absolutely sure there’s evidence that what you’re saying is absolutely correct.”

While Attenborough’s earlier work focused more on the wonders of the natural world, his later work has been more vocal in support of environmental causes.

How many animals are featured in this documentary? If the answer is correct, you could win a Blu-ray copy of Dynasties: The Greatest of Their Kind. Entries should be sent to [email protected] by Monday, 8 August 2022. Names of the winners will be published in Frank Cassidy’s PS-sssst…! column on 9 August 2022.
