The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has made the Skills Framework for the Information Age (SFIA) free for all Australians.
Releasing the Framework, DTA said the SFIA was a global standard that defined digital as well as other information and communication technology (ICT) related skills.
“Australia holds one of only two country-wide licences in the world,” the DTA said.
“The SFIA is a global framework language for describing the skills digital practitioners need,” it said.
“It was developed in the United Kingdom and is now used around the world in 11 languages.”
DTA said many organisations used the Framework in their workforce planning, recruitment, human resource management, skill recognition and capability development processes.
It said the SFIA could be used anywhere to discuss or manage skills.
Capability Architect with DTA’s Digital Profession stream, Grant Nicholson said that without a framework, people would need to write a lot of words to accurately describe the skills they needed to get a job done.
“The SFIA contains all the details describing digital capabilities,” Mr Nicholson said.
“This means if you need a certain capability, you can refer to the skills and levels you need from the SFIA, and everyone knows what you are talking about.”
He said that by using SIFA, people could describe the main skill set for an entire job in just a few words.
