DTA buys into purchasing policies

The Digital Transformation Agency (DTA) has begun drafting new policies for the purchase of digital products and services by Government Agencies and has called for assistance from practitioners in the field.

The DTA said a consultation paper had been produced based on interviews with digital sourcing experts from a range of Government Agencies.

“We’ve tested and iterated it based on the feedback we’ve received,” DTA said.

“We’re now asking for input, particularly from people who buy digital products and services for the Government.

“We’re seeking feedback on the Digital Sourcing Consider First Policy consultation paper. This paper proposes a policy that will help Agencies make more considered investment decisions, and is backed by four principles.”

The DTA outlined the four principles as: Investment that was user-centred and outcomes focused; Buyers engaging early, consulting wide and using innovative approaches; Priority given to usability and total cost of ownership; and Alignment with technical requirements to improve user and business outcomes.

“We’d like to know about how users make investment decisions and how they buy or build digital products and services for Government,” the Agency said.

“We’d also like to know how this draft policy might impact or support users’ work.”

DTA will accept feedback 18 December and the consultation paper can be accessed at this PS News link.
