Canberra drivers have been reminded to slow down all this week as children return to school and the school speeding zone restrictions come back into effect.
Delivering the reminder, ACT Policing said 40km/h speed limits were now in effect in school zones from 8.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday.
“Slow down and be extra vigilant so we can keep our kids safe,” the Police said.
Joining the call for caution, Our CBR advised drivers to take care during peak periods before and after school.
“Most importantly, remember to slow down and take care when driving in the school zones,” Our CBR said.
“To support safety as traffic increases around our schools, you can expect to see mobile speed vans, as well as police regularly patrolling school zones,” it said.
“Park safely and legally and don’t park across pedestrian crossings, kerbs, nature strips or footpaths.”
Our CBR said people could think of parking their cars a little further away from the school and walk with their kids the rest of the way.
It said the Territory’s 27 school crossing supervisors were out in force helping young and less visible students cross roads safely.
“After all, when it comes to keeping kids safe, all road users have a role to play,” it said.
