ACT Policing has issued a reminder to drivers to slow down around schools with 40kmph speed limits back in force in school zones.
Officer in charge of Traffic Operations at ACT Policing, Detective Station Sergeant Marcus Boorman said the speed restrictions were in place to protect our most vulnerable road users.
“Road safety is everyone’s responsibility and it is important motorists slow down and pay special attention when travelling near schools,” Det Station Sgt Boorman said.
“Children’s behaviour around traffic can often be unpredictable,” he said.
“The lower speed limit around our school zones reduces the risk and potential severity of a crash.”
He said ACT Policing would be actively enforcing the school zone speed limits across Canberra.
“Tough penalties apply for those who ignore speed zone restrictions,” Det Station Sgt Boorman said.
He said school zone speed limits were in force between 8am and 4pm across the ACT.
