ACT Policing has announced it is targeting drivers under the influence of drink or drugs following a disappointing Easter period.
Among the drivers caught under the influence of alcohol were four with blood alcohol levels more than twice the 0.05 legal limit.
The drivers, who will face court via summons, were a 45-year-old Evatt man; a 32-year-old Thai national; a 37-year-old Banks man and a 32-year-old Banks woman.
Additionally, during speed enforcement operations on the Kings Highway a 31-year-old woman from NSW on a Provisional Licence was detected driving at 96km/h in an 80km/h zone.
She was subjected to roadside alcohol and drug tests and returned a positive result for methamphetamine. As a result she was arrested and bailed to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court for speeding and drug driving.
ACT Policing’s Officer in Charge of Traffic Operations, Acting Station Sergeant David Wills said such behaviour was deeply concerning.
“Driving intoxicated by drugs or alcohol is illegal and highly dangerous,” Acting Station Sergeant Wills said.
“It’s disappointing that these drivers have put their lives, and the lives of other road users, in danger by acting irresponsibly.”
He said the message was simple and not new: “Don’t drive while under the influence or alcohol or drugs. Don’t speed. Police are targeting dangerous behaviour and if you do the wrong thing you will get caught.”
