The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) has invited public comments on a new draft water resource plan for the Barwon-Darling Watercourse, proposed changes to the water sharing plan for the area and a draft policy on active management for unregulated rivers.
DPIE said the new draft water resource plan, as well as the other proposed changes, were in response to the Natural Resources Commission’s review of the Barwon-Darling Water Sharing Plan.
DPIE said the proposed changes were to protect low flows in the Barwon-Darling system amid other proposed actions to protect water for towns and the environment.
“This plan outlines how New South Wales will meet the requirements of the Basin Plan in the Barwon-Darling Watercourse Water Resource Plan Area,” the Department said.
It said fact sheets had been developed containing information about the proposed changes and public information sessions were scheduled during the exhibition period, beginning today in Sydney (1 October) and finishing on 18 October in Menindee.
It said the draft Barwon-Darling Watercourse Water Resource Plan was currently on public exhibition until 29 October.
The Government’s response, the fact sheets and the proposed changes to the water resource plan can be found on DPIE’s website at this PS News link.
