The Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) has accepted reaccreditation as a White Ribbon Australia workplace.

The DPC said that by participating in the White Ribbon Australia Workplace Accreditation Program it had shown a whole-of-organisation commitment to address issues of gendered violence and sexual harassment against women.

The Department said that to achieve accreditation, it met 15 criteria under three standards to create a safer and more respectful workplace.

“We are now recognised as a workplace that is taking active steps to stop violence against women,” the DPC said.

Deputy Chief Executive and Chair of the Gender Equality and Respect Working Group for the DPC, Jon Gorvett (pictured left) accepted the certificate of creditation from the Representative for White Ribbon Australia, Gillian Lewis in recognition of achieving the milestone last month (31 August).

The DPC said it was committed to promoting a culture of zero tolerance for violence and to providing a safe and respectful place in which women could excel as professional public sector employees.

“We recognise that violence against women is grounded in gender inequality,” it said.

“As a workplace, we play a critical role in creating the necessary cultural change to stop violence against women, both inside and outside the workplace.

“We promote women’s equal participation in the workforce, respectful relationships in the workplace and the breaking down of harmful stereotypes about men’s and women’s roles at work and in society,” the Department said.
