The Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) has outlined the meal, travel and other allowances public service staff will be able to claim for this financial year (FY) and last year in a new Circular.
Accompanying C2022-08 Meal, Travelling and Other Allowances for 2021-22 and 2022-23, DPC released Rates and Allowances Table Meal Travelling and Other Allowances 2021-22 and 2022-23 with a breakdown of the increase in allowances.
“Agencies should process the respective payments for meal, travelling and other allowances in accordance with the rates set out in the circular with effect from 1 July 2021 and 1 July 2022,” the Secretary of DPC, Michael Coutts-Trotter said in the Circular.
Mr Coutts-Trotter said work related allowances for on-call, flying, community language scheme and first aid had increased by 2.04 per cent from the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 July 2021, and by 2.53 per cent from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2022
However, he said private motor vehicle allowances were determined by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and remained at a flat rate of 72 cents for the fiscal year 2021-2022 but increased to 78 cents for FY2022-23 for all engine types.
“The meal, travelling and related allowances contained in Table 1 Allowances of Part B – Monetary Rates of the Crown Employees (Public Service Conditions of Employment) Reviewed Award 2009 have been increased effective from 1 July 2021 and 1 July 2022,” the Secretary said.
He said that per day meal, travelling, incidental and overtime allowances had been increased in line with the ATO’s Determination No. TD 2021/06 – which sets out the reasonable allowance amounts for the 2021-22 financial year – and from 1 July 2022 in accordance with the ATO’s Determination No. TD 2022/10
“This Circular supersedes and replaces Department of Premier and Cabinet Circular C2021-03 – Meal, Travelling and other Allowances for 2020-21,” Mr Coutts-Trotter said.
