A national plan to address violence against women and children has been released by Minister for Foreign Affairs and Women, Marise Payne.

Senator Payne said the Fourth Action Plan of the National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children 2010-2022 was an important milestone in a shared commitment to ensure a safer Australia for women and children.

She said the initiative “demonstrates strong, on-the-ground commitments to make a difference for all Australian women and children”.

“We need practical and collaborative efforts to drive real and lasting change on improving the safety of Australian women and their children,” Senator Payne said.

“States and Territories have committed to improving frontline services, including crisis support to women and their children in need.”

Minister for Families and Social Services, Anne Ruston said the plan put measurable outcomes alongside the more than 160 initiatives funded.

“It will ensure greater accountability and transparency on how the Commonwealth, States and Territories are working to support women and children who experience violence and vitally, tell us which initiatives are making the biggest difference,” Senator Ruston said.

She said the plan followed the re-release of the Stop it at the Start advertising campaign (pictured), encouraging adults to start a conversation with young people about respectful relationships.
