Do you aspire to be average? Then AI is right for you

Bruce Kasanoff says people who habitually use artificial intelligence to ‘’improve’’ their work are surrendering the individuality that makes them stand out from their colleagues and competitors.

Let me begin with a caveat: I use artificial intelligence and have built some highly successful tools with it — but I would never allow AI to write this newsletter or take over my voice.

My reason has nothing to do with ethics. It has to do with the fact that if everyone uses AI to write, every piece generated by AI will be no better than what the next billion people can do with the same tool.

I admit to being something of a quirky guy. Many years ago, I did earn an MBA from Wharton Business School, but since then have had a non-traditional career.

For 15 years (so far), I’ve been writing about doing well by doing good. I believe unconditional love will eventually save humanity. I’m a lone wolf who brings people together.

I do not want AI to smooth out the parts of that paragraph — and the ways I behave — that sometimes cause people to scratch their heads when they cross my path.

The fact that I am not everyone’s taste is what makes me special to a few folks with whom I resonate greatly. The same can be true for you.

Over the past few years, I’ve watched a growing number of entrepreneurs use AI to ”capture” their thoughts for social media. It works reasonably well, if you want to be average.

Here’s the problem: I’ve never had a client who wants to be average, even though I’ve met plenty of people who think AI will make them better.

In my experience, AI makes only a tiny percentage of the population better, and these are the people who either sell AI, sell AI courses, or are interesting no matter what they do.

I don’t write much about AI, because everyone is doing it, but today I couldn’t resist, because I don’t want you to settle for being average.
