Do or die!

Start the conversation

Opening up in South Australia where the highly regarded SA Police Force is making sure there’s no doubt its road safety messages hit the target they’re clearly aimed and pointed at.

Back in October, the Force – delightfully named ‘SAPOL’ – left no chance of being misunderstood when its Fatal Five road safety campaign came delivered with the police demanding the State’s motorists “stop dying!”

An earlier this month it launched another campaign called Operation Safe Hills introducing it with the equally no-nonsense demand that motorists “stop the carnage”.

Not one to beat around the bush, the policeperson who launched the first of the straightforward campaigns made the point that it was “designed to speak directly” to the community and that it “comprised seven emotionally charged TV commercials”.

The police officer launching the second campaign defended its bluntness saying “the statistics are absolutely staggering.”

“How many people need to die or sustain life changing injuries before drivers and riders start to change their attitudes and their behaviour?”

How many indeed!

A healthy scratch

Over to Western Australia now where a new strategy for treating health and medicine as an industry has been unveiled, promising to go about “facilitating commercialisation, developing skills and attracting talent” among other notable targets aimed at bringing the intriguing enterprise to fruition.

Indicating that the State was already on the road towards industrialising the industry, the official announcement looked to an example at the Royal Perth Hospital where remote operations were already in place for delivering health and monitoring patients.

“‘Health in a Virtual Environment’ at Royal Perth Hospital is a strong example of cross-sector applications to medical products and devices,” the announcement announced with only the slightest of eyebrow raising accompanying the name of the example.

The hospital’s “Health in a Virtual Environment” is itchingly abbreviated to HIVE, defined by Google as: Hives (urticaria), red, itchy welts that result from a skin reaction”.

Rama’s DVD giveaway

More weekly winners in Rama’s regular raffle of rich rewards now, where the right response to her riddle of wisdom is all it takes to be a well-won winner!

The lucky winners this week stand to receive DVD copies of the romantic comedy movie Senior Moment starring William Shatner, Jean Smart and Christopher Lloyd, just by knowing the answer to Rama’s recent riddle: What unusual achievement did actor William Shatner – formerly captain James T. Kirk of Star Trek – get up to?

The answer is that he soared into space to become, at age 90, the oldest human ever to make the trip.

The three entrants whose correct answers managed to squeeze out of the PS News Barrel of Booty first were received from Felicia C of Victoria’s Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, Margaret P from Heritage Tasmania and Jenny D from the Australian Taxation Office.

Congratulations to all the winners and thanks to everyone who took part. The DVDs will be flying to their new owners’ homes in the very near future.

And while they do, more chances are available for more of Rama’s winners to exercise more luck by simply reading Rama’s reviews of the Book Brave at this PS News link and/or her other Book The Wise Enterprise at this link, answering her quiz question or questions as carefully as they can to enter entries with the best chance to succeed.

Good luck to all who do. Watch PS News next week to see how you went!

Clean fun?

And finally, another welcome visit from the brilliant Philomena S of Victoria’s Department of Families, Fairness and Housing for another stroll down hilarious lane, this time with a humorous nudge at our elected leaders.

According to Philomena – and many thousands of experienced PS staffers we hasten to add with no suggestion of judgment, commentary or the slightest disrespect to our dearly beloved politicians – they often share a marked likeness to babie’s nappies.

According to the worldly wise wisdom of many, it is often a good idea that both babies and politicians be changed from time to time.

And, according to the same worldly wise commentators, it’s often for the same reason!

Till next week…
