The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has launched its Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2020–2022.

In a statement, DMIRS said reconciliation was a living appreciation, understanding and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

“The Department is proud to acknowledge and celebrate the richness and diversity of their histories and cultures,” the Department said.

“The four key pillars of the RAP focus on continuing to build mutually respectful relationships and generate opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and businesses through employment and procurement.”

It said all DMIRS offices in Perth and throughout the regions would receive and display the RAP artwork, titled Coming Together, created by an artist in residence from Boronia Women’s Pre-Release Centre.

“This artwork, featured throughout the RAP document, acknowledges the connections between the Department’s metropolitan and regional offices, its delivery of services into regional and Aboriginal communities, and its commitment to increasing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employment opportunities,” the Department said.

“Dreamtime spirits, represented in the artwork, oversee the creation of our land, from the vast coastal plains, lush green forests and the sunburnt desert,” it said.

“The hands and feet represent the many cultures of today’s society in our great State, coming together in freedom, equality and harmony.”

The Department’s 29-page RAP can be accessed at this PS News link.
