Set on an acre of land by the banks of Berrima’s Wingecarribee River, 6-8 Oldbury Street is defined by elegance from another age.

The five-bedroom, three-bathroom home can only be described as grand, but remains warm and inviting indoors despite its size.

Sales agent Louisa Andersen says stepping over the threshold is an experience in itself.

“You’re immediately struck by the impressive front door, which is solid timber and bordered by highlight windows,” she says.

“Nine-foot ceilings, hardwood floors and quality finishes give an amazing sense of space once you step inside. I’d say the atmosphere is classic and sophisticated, without being too formal.”

Visitors are drawn naturally through to the heart of the home – the open-plan kitchen, dining and lounge.

Foodies will be delighted by the large U-shaped kitchen, where red granite benchtops and rich timber cabinetry continue the elegant theme. The space is as practical as it is beautiful, with a built-in fridge, gas cooktop, dishwasher and quality Smeg appliances.

No Colonial-style home would be complete without a fireplace, and this one is showcased by a stunning sandstone hearth with highlight windows behind.

“You could host friends and family here with ease, but there’s also an intimate, cosy vibe, especially when the fire is lit,” Louisa says.

“The way this room flows easily out to the back patio and alfresco area is one of my favourite features in the whole house.”

Tucked into the home’s front corner is the sunny master suite. Equipped with a walk-in wardrobe, oversized windows and an ensuite with a spa-like bathtub, it’s a peaceful retreat ready for relaxation.

Also at ground level is the main bathroom, a convenient storage room, a library/study nook and laundry.

Three more bedrooms can be found upstairs, surrounding a relaxed rumpus space. They all have built-in wardrobes and share the family bathroom, which has a separate toilet for privacy.

The views from the first floor are spectacular, offering glimpses of the nearby river on one side and lush greenery on the other.

Mature trees are dotted throughout the block, so each room has great privacy.

“Having a little over 40 metres of exclusive river frontage is a huge drawcard for this property,” Louisa says.

“There’s a lovely flat spot right near it that would be perfect for picnics. I can imagine many cherished memories being made there.”

Extra features include a double garage with an attached workshop, which is easily accessed thanks to the wide side entry block.

On-roof solar panels, an electric hot water system, and double glazing on all windows also cater to sustainability and energy efficiency.

Berrima is a small community home to fewer than a thousand people.

The historic village is beautifully preserved, with 1800s sandstone architecture and Australia’s oldest licensed inn standing alongside a range of boutique shops, galleries, wineries, cafes and restaurants to explore.

Louisa says this property would suit a growing family or lifestyle buyer looking for a peaceful, easily manageable block.

“Homes this special don’t come onto the market often, especially in an area as tightly held as Berrima,” she says.

“If you’re looking for a lifestyle of comfort, privacy and elegance, come along to our next open home on Saturday, 24 May, and experience its beauty in person.”

6-8 Oldbury Street in Berrima will be auctioned on Wednesday, 4 June, at 6 pm. The auction will be held at Ray White Bowral, shops 1 & 2/255 Bong Bong Street, Bowral. For more information, contact Louisa Andersen on 0447 484 021 or Gene Fairbanks on 0448 613 665.
