The Department of Communities, Housing and Digital Economy has announced that Digitrek, its digital careers roadshow, is being held this week.
It said it would be on in Dalby on Wednesday (24 May), Kingaroy, Thursday (25 May) and Toowoomba, Friday (26 May).
In a statement, the Department said Digitrek would provide regional Queenslanders with a chance to learn about the latest digital technologies, study and career options, and what a job in digital looked like.
“Digitrek will provide the opportunity to participate in free face-to-face workshops showcasing the career and business opportunities that can be harnessed through cutting-edge technology,” the Department said.
“Participants will gain insights into the digital skills required by the workforce of the future in response to the demand for technology, cyber-security and artificial intelligence specialists — demand which continues to grow across the State.”
It said Digitrek events were designed to meet the needs of high school students, as well as businesses and interested community members.
“During the roadshows, attendees will be able to meet the Australian Army Drone Racing Team as it showcases how science, technology engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects and drones can be used for agricultural and business applications,” the Department said.
“On hand will be representatives of the Fujitsu company who will demystify artificial intelligence and how it can be used. Participants can discover how advances in technology are being used by famers to make farming more efficient.”
In addition, they could design a prototype with 3D printing and develop algorithms that could identify an object and track its movement.
“There’s never been a better time to learn about digital careers and opportunities, with demand for digital skills at an all-time high,” the Department said.
