Residents impacted by the Wooroloo bushfire in Perth’s North East are to receive assistance from a State Recovery Coordination Group set up by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES).
Commissioner for Fire and Emergency Services, Darren Klemm said the group would ensure a personalised approach was taken to help people impacted get back on their feet.
“The group will meet on a regular basis and will oversee all aspects of the recovery process to ensure State Government, Local Government and not-for-profits are working together to address issues as quickly as possible,” Commissioner Klemm said.
“The group met for the first-time on 5 February and discussions were focused on immediate recovery activities, including the clean-up and damage assessment, as well as the longer-term impacts of the fire.”
He said the road to recovery would be a long process, and the DFES was committed to providing ongoing support to help people through this challenging time.
The State Recovery Coordination Group is comprised of State and Local Government representatives and not-for-profit organisations, with Ron Edwards appointed as the State Recovery Controller.
The Wooroloo bushfire that started on 1 February, burnt through 10,900 hectares, and destroyed 86 properties.
Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements have been activated to provide disaster assistance to communities in the City of Swan and Shire of Mundaring.
