The Department of Education has announced 1,200 scholarships for local and international students to study in 84 regional locations as part of its Destination Australia Program.
Minister for Education, Dan Tehan said 35 higher education and vocational education providers would offer the scholarships from next year.
“The $93.7 million Destination Australia Program aims to attract international and domestic students to study in regional Australia,” Mr Tehan said.
“It’s also designed to develop regional tertiary education institutions and offer students a high quality learning experience without geographical restrictions.”
He said scholarships were available for students planning to undertake Certificate IV through to PhD qualifications.
“Students who are interested in applying for a Destination Australia Program scholarship can do so directly with their preferred successful provider,” Mr Tehan said.
“The scholarships will provide eligible students with the opportunity to explore a unique life outside metropolitan cities while undertaking a world-class tertiary education.”
For the purposes of the Destination Australia Program, a regional location is classified as any area outside of the major cities, in line with the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Australian Statistical Geography Standard Remoteness Structure.
